Sex, drugs and sausage rolls: London life, love and other random stuff

Guy, Interrupted (aka Kristian Johns)

If you say I look like Danny Dyer, I may have to kill you.

It’s funny.

When you write for a living, you can make the underside of a shoe sound interesting, but when it comes to writing about yourself?

Hmm…not so easy.

So I bribed asked someone else to do it for me:

Guy, Interrupted is the alter-ego of Kristian Johns, a thirtysomething editor and writer from South London, who has been dubbed ‘the male Carrie Bradshaw’ — which he secretly rather enjoys, but will never admit.

Sometimes, funny, sometimes heartfelt, sometimes controversial, always entertaining, he chronicles his adventures ‘careening around London like a pinball in an arcade game’ in the award-winning blog, Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls: London life, love and other random stuff.

His first short story, Dying and Other Superpowers, from the anthology Boys and Girls (edited by Paul Burston) received favourable reviews. He is currently working on his first full-length novel, which expands on the Dying and Other Superpowers world.

In his spare time he enjoys rock music, drinking too much coffee, tweeting rather a lot, and watching superhero films.

He is also perennially single.

Praise for Sex Drugs and Sausage Rolls:

Real. Heartfelt. Informative. Wow, there are so many words of praise I want to say right now. So well done. You rock!

Haven’t said this yet but honestly, you’re an inspiration – awesome blog, you might have just become my hero xx

Your blog has just been reposted on Facebook by a Maltese politician whom I happen to know. It’s going around the world!

BRILLIANT blog from the amazing @guy_interruptd on how to heal a broken heart. Tis good advice! http://tinyurl.com/32tkgh5

Super-duper blog post by @guy_interruptdhttp://tinyurl.com/32tkgh5 His tips should be part of the gay curriculum…

I am who I am. Take me or leave me. Do your worst because I’m very, very strong. I’ve been inspired by the blog of @guy_interruptd

Never really tweeted before-just wanted to say that you have balls for the HIV blog, you have potentially saved someone! X

Your blog is so cute! You’re so cute! Just want to squeeze ya!

I’m cooler than a penguin on skis. <– Epic quote from @guy_interruptd ‘s new blog post just got me LOLing.

Just started following @guy_interruptd. Mostly because I want to have sex with his eyebrows. And also ‘cause his blog is good too.

I adore that @guy_interruptd has EXACTLY hit upon how I feel about Twitter. Read his blog, y’all – http://bit.ly/afwcR3

The verdict is in: EPIC.

So please keep coming back, and if you want me clogging up your social media timelines with my daily musings, you can always follow me on Twitter.

Thanks for reading, see you back here soon,

Guy, Interrupted

  9. I very much enjoy your blog, having just discovered it. I especially enjoy the English slang words that I’d forgotten from my summer at Cambridge. Don’t think I’ll ever get used to the word “fag” 🙂 And in my head, I read your blog with a british accent, which helps tremendously!

  13. Hi Kristian just read your blog and can say bloody well done that man, you have more balls than me admitting about your HIV I have told my family and a few close friends , but even after about 15 years I still find it hard to tell people without them freaking out.
My hat comes off to you and I am so glad I found you on Twitter as you have made me smile even when it’s been a bad day xx

Lots of ‘brands’ following me lately. I predict a volley of ‘Can you RT this for us’? Fuck off. I’m not your personal ad board.

you are massively self important and self obsessed. you have a few followers on twitter, that’s it.

    • I really don’t think there is any need to be so rude. A lot of people have found a great deal of comfort and reassurance in Kristian’s blog. It’s honest, informative and on the whole, somewhat of a privilege to read.

  22. Hi Kristian, I read your story in the Yorkshire & North East FS Magazine issue #128 Winter 2012 today. If I had meet you in bar and I was taking you to my place and you told me you were HIV positive, I would have said so what, I have mental illness, which I have had for 21 years.

So I know how it feel to be rejected on Gaydar, because you have health problem(s) or a disability!

I am glad that this guy text you and you are now good friends.

  23. @EconomistOnline final edits and then I choose a publisher! Poss six months x

i don’t want to rain on your parade but you are aware it isn’t as easy as that. it can take ages to get a publisher (you won’t as yet as it isn’t finished) and then you need one that a) thinks the book is good and b) wants to actually publish it.

      • Thanks for your feedback, Sammy. I don’t want to rain on your own parade, but I’ve had offers from two publishers. I just need to decide which is best x

  27. just to clarify what you actually do is pretty inspirational. i know quite a few people who just cower away from hiv but you make a point of standing up and being counted, if you know what i mean. if more people did that (not that you can blame people who don’t – everyone should handle things the way they want) i’m sure the stigma would go much quicker.

  28. Hello Kristian or “guy_interrupted”,
My name is Pablo and I had a coming out story a couple years ago that was live on Gaydar Radio’s the Neil and Debbie show. At the end of my story they recommended that I get in touch with you (I never got around to it unfortunately, I wish I had sooner). I was wondering if we could chat as I also have an HIV story (been living with it for three years now).
Anyways, hope to hear from you.

    Lots of love,
    Pablo

@antonycotton are you in Manc or London for Pride? X @gareththomas14 @RugbyBenCohen

when people like you try and engage ‘celebrities’ on twitter as though they should know who you are it is REALLY embarrassing. have some dignity and stop doing it, you do it quite a bit and they always ignore you.

    thanks

  34. I’ll be honest, I’ve been following you on Twitter, and have at times, recoiled in embarrassment, discomfort, shame, and standing judge, to some of your “tweets”. Your reflective blog posts, and outpourings, have however, left me, standing still, reflective, self examining, enlightened and much greater a gay man. Still a little passive aggressive, granted. That’s my shit. I’ve also read @thatblokedennis blog. So, in summation. I feel more succinct, wholesome, aware and will probably pop up from nowhere and shake you by the hand. Thank you Kristian.

  35. WTVF ???? Your tweets about the back of your loaf being on the evening news, is definitely the only side of would ever want to see of you Kristian. Mark flooring the guy trying to stop the guy bleeding to death ? Okay. Beautiful backs of heads ? eating dirty food in celebration of a guilty verdict ??? You not wanting to clap eyes on the CCTV footage ever again ? And yet his wife, remaining as heroic as she is, is still in the midst of the most horrific bereavement that any non self fulfilling human being could ever possibly imagine. This is just the start for her, and her children. Mark did a magnificent job that night. Not you. Her journey will forever continue, as will her children’s. Please delete the tweets. Immediately. And stick to what you do brilliantly. Peace out.
